A inicios de la dictadura se inició una fuerte revisión bibliográfica en las bibliotecas del país, por parte del Ejército chileno. Miles de libros fueron censurados y quemados. En su mayoría poseían temáticas políticas de izquierda, o al menos así lo creían los militares.
